Description

Hillview is a two-storey house built in 1739 by Lewis Gordon, which has been restored and converted into flats by Aspen Developments in 1987. The house has a near symmetrical design with projections at the center of each elevation and a lower service bay added later. It features harled walls with painted ashlar dressings and a base course.

On the north elevation, there is a full-height canted bay at the center topped with a piended roof and a round-arched keystoned doorway. This doorway has a panelled door and a decorative fanlight above it. There are windows in the flanking splays and smaller windows at the first floor under the eaves. The outer bays and first floor windows are similarly detailed.

The east return has a lower eaves projection with a window on each floor facing north, while the west return features a canted single-storey bay with a cornice and blocking course.

The south elevation mirrors the north elevation but includes a French door at the center and a recessed bay to the right with a first-floor window that breaks the eaves in a piend-roofed dormer.

The house has 12- and 6-pane glazing patterns in sash and case windows, grey slates on the piended roofs, and massive harled ridge stacks with original cans retained.
