Througburn, Main Street, Ormiston

Througburn is a 17th century house that has been significantly altered in the 18th century and in modern times. The northern elevation features bull-faced render with cement rendered margins, while the sides and rear are also rendered, with a base course. The building has a cellar above ground and a single storey above.

At the center of the three-bay northern elevation, there is a tall round arched doorway with a semi-circular fanlight, which leads to an internal stair to the main floor. On either side of the doorway, there are blinded six-pane windows flanking the cellar, which are widely spaced. The upper level has modern concrete mullioned bipartite windows that are grouped more closely towards the center under the eaves.

The side elevation facing Cross Loan is blank, and the western side is adjoined to the Old Schoolhouse. The rear elevation features a porch addition and altered windows.

On the main floor, there are sash and case windows with three vertical-pane upper sashes and plate glass lower sashes. The building has end stacks and scrolled skewputts on the northern elevation, and it is topped with pantiles.
