Old Schoolhouse, Main Street, Ormiston

The Old Schoolhouse on Main Street in Ormiston dates back to the later 18th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay house with a tall single-storey addition that was built later. The exterior is harled with painted ashlar margins.

On the northeast elevation, there are three widely spaced bays. The central doorway features a shallow painted pediment lintel and a panelled door with a small-pane fanlight above it. There are windows in the flanking bays and in each bay on the first floor. A small attic window is located on the west elevation. To the outer left, there is an additional bay that includes a door and a window, which adjoins the schoolhouse and a neighbouring property. There is a throughburn, and a later school room is attached to the right. The rear elevation has seen some additions.

The sash and case windows have a 12-pane glazing pattern. The building features steeply pitched gables, ashlar coped skews, and generous end stacks, all covered with grey slates.
