Description
Inchcolm is a 17th-century dwelling house located at 17 East Terrace, High Street, South Queensferry, with alterations and additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. The house is two stories with an attic and has three bays, constructed from harled rubble with painted margins.
The principal elevation features a central door with a modern porch, flanked by a small window on each side. There is a single window in the left bay at ground floor and a modern bipartite window in the right bay. The first floor has a regular arrangement of three windows. In the attic, there is a box dormer in the right bay.
The south elevation has two bays with single windows at the first floor and smaller windows in the attic, which are square in proportion. Lean-to sheds are present at the ground level.
On the west elevation, there are two windows in the right bays at ground level and two windows in the left bays at the first floor, along with a box dormer in the right bay.
The north elevation has an adjoining building at ground level and a window in the right bay of the attic. The house features 12-pane and 4-pane sash and case windows, with modern glazing in the dormers. It has crowstepped skews, a slate roof, a rubble stack at the south gablehead, and a rendered stack at the north gablehead.
The interior has been significantly altered. In the early 20th century, it was converted into three flats, but the current owners restored it to a single dwelling house in the 1950s. The house has a depth of one room, and a central spiral stair leads to the upper floors. The living room on the ground floor features an exposed stone fire surround.
Additionally, there are three cellars in the garden bank, built of painted rubble with timber doors.
