Description
The building at 3 The Vennel in South Queensferry is a former church, dated 1633, which was restored by P MacGregor Chalmers in 1898 and converted into a house in 1999. It features a rectangular plan without aisles and is constructed from coursed rubble. The exterior includes a corbelled bellcote with roll-mouldings and retains its original bell.
On the west elevation, there is a central recessed doorway with a new door and railing, and above it, a round-headed arched window. The bellcote is located at the gablehead. The north elevation showcases three large 4-centred arched windows with Y-tracery, along with smaller blocked round-arched windows in between. There is a blocked roll-moulded doorway with a date stone in the right bay and a small window above to the right. The east elevation features an arched window with Y-tracery and a fleur-de-lys finial. The south elevation is similar to the north, with three large 4-centred arched windows with Y-tracery, a blocked opening in the left bay, a chimney on the left side of the roof, and a small window above. The interior was not seen in 2000.
