Description
Dunino Parish Church is a building designed by James Gillespie Graham in 1826, with additions by P MacGregor Chalmers completed in 1928. It is originally a small rectangular Georgian Gothic church constructed of coursed squared rubble, featuring a droved ashlar plinth and dressings. The church has crow-stepped gables on the west and east sides, with a bell-cote on the west that includes an arched opening on each face and a tall crocketed spirelet above. The west facade features a large four-centre traceried window, complete with a hood mould and deep chamfered reveals.
On the north side, there is a former entrance door at the right end, flanked by a pair of tall Y-traceried windows at the center, all with hood moulds and chamfered reveals. A small crow-stepped porch, added in 1928, is located at the left end and is accessed from the east, featuring a single lancet window to the north. The new chancel to the east, also completed in 1928, reuses the original east window and is otherwise finished in polished ashlar, with crow-stepped gables and single lancets on the north and south sides. The south side of the nave has four tall windows similar to those on the north side.
Inside, much of the work is attributed to P MacGregor Chalmers. The interior features exposed rubble, with pews from 1826 that have been stripped and reused, now facing east. The window cills are carved with foliage, the tracery has been renewed, and leaded glazing has been fitted. The ceilings are boarded, featuring transverse and ridge ribs. Stained glass in the chancel was created by J Jennings of London between 1930 and 1931, and there is a window in the porch by W Wilson from 1949.
