Dovecot, Bankton House, Johnnie Cope's Road, Prestonpans

The Dovecot at Bankton House, located on Johnnie Cope's Road in Prestonpans, is likely from the 18th century. It is a square, two-stage garden house and dovecot, originally one of two structures that were attached to the northern corners of the walled garden south of Bankton House. The building is constructed of sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings, a string course, and coping, with some brick repairs. It is connected at the southwest corner to Bankton Steading and is situated to the west of Bankton House. There is a door at the center of the west elevation, and another door leading to the upper stage on the right, which was formerly accessed by a stone rampart. Additionally, there is a further door on the east elevation. The structure appears to have a flat roof, with a string course that serves as a cornice for the parapet. The interior, which was not seen in 1989, contains nesting boxes.
