Description

Nursery Cottage is a late 19th-century, three-bay house with a single storey and an attic. The exterior is whitewashed with painted stone margins, featuring stone-fronted dormers, while the southwest elevation is rendered. It has a crowstepped gable on the southwest side, adorned with beaked skewputts.

On the southeast, or principal elevation, there is an architraved doorpiece at the centre of the ground floor, which includes a modern 15-pane glazed door and a 3-pane rectangular fanlight above it, topped by a blank tooled tablet. The remaining bays at ground level have windows, and the attic features stone-fronted rectangular dormers with slated sides. The central dormer has a crowstepped design with beaked skewputts and a ball finial, while the left and right dormers have coped skews. There is a later addition on the right side, which includes a pair of windows at ground level and a window in a part-infilled doorway, along with a stone-fronted cat-slide dormerhead with slated sides that breaks the eaves at the attic.

The southwest elevation is mostly a blank gable, with a window on the left side at ground level. The northwest elevation was not seen in 1999, and the northeast elevation is obscured by a later slated lean-to addition.

The interior was also not seen in 1999. The cottage features 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a graded grey slate roof, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The ridge and gablehead stacks are corniced and coped, with decorative octagonal cans.

The boundary wall and gate consist of a coped, lined cement wall to the right of the principal elevation, which sweeps down to an opening with a two-leaf vertically-boarded timber vehicular gate. There is also a coped, rendered wall to the outer right, rounded at the corner, which continues alongside the property to the north.
