Dovecot House, Preston Road, Prestonpans

Dovecot House, located on Preston Road in Prestonpans, is an 18th-century building with a 19th-century two-storey addition. The property features a single-storey, three-bay cottage alongside a two-storey, two-bay L-plan house addition, with the bay on the right projecting outward. The exterior is made of rendered and whitewashed coursed rubble, along with stugged, squared, and snecked sandstone, and includes projecting cills and a base course.

The north elevation, which serves as the entrance, showcases the three-bay cottage with regular window placement. The center window is in a part-infilled former doorway. The addition to the right has a four-panel timber door and a two-pane rectangular fanlight in the left bay at ground level, with a window above. The projecting bay to the right has a window at ground level and another above, while there are single windows on both floors of the return.

The west elevation is mostly blank, featuring a window to the outer right at ground level and a single-storey addition to the right with a pair of windows.

The south and east elevations were not seen in 2000. The building predominantly has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, and cast-iron rainwater goods. It includes gablehead and wallhead stacks, which are corniced and feature a variety of cans, along with coped skews.

The interior was not seen in 2000. There is also a boundary wall made of rubble that projects slightly to the west alongside Preston Road, which is flat-coped.
