Burgh Offices, 8 Avenue Square, Stewarton

Burgh Offices, located at 8 Avenue Square in Stewarton, is a former burgh office building dating from the mid-19th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay Classical structure with a lower, two-storey, two-bay extension on the left. The building is constructed of sandstone ashlar, with concrete render on the rear and the upper part of the extension. It features a base course that accommodates the slope of the land, cill courses, an eaves band, and a cornice. The outer bays are adorned with Doric pilasters, while the central bay is slightly advanced and includes a central Doric pilastered doorpiece. The entrance consists of a two-leaf, panelled timber door with a rectangular fanlight above.

The windows are predominantly four-pane timber sash and case, with plate glass timber sash and case windows in the extension. The roof is covered with grey slates and features raised skews and coped gable stacks topped with decorative polygonal cans, along with later rooflights.

Inside, as observed in 2008, the building has been largely altered, but it retains a curved timber staircase with decorative iron balusters and a timber banister. One room still showcases decorative plaster cornicing, and there are some six-panel timber doors.
