Description

Early 19th century. 3-storey, 3-bay, classically-detailed commercial building. Sandstone ashlar, rusticated to ground floor, stugged to 1st and 2nd floors, polished dressings, slate roof. Base course, band course to 1st and 2nd floors, corniced and coped parapet with dies. 12-pane timber sash and case windows, moulded architraves to upper floors, corniced and aproned at 1st floor.

FRONT ELEVATION: panelled door to centre with recessed Doric-piered doorcase and large round-headed astragalled fanlight; 3 windows to 1st and 2nd floor.

INTERIOR: Stone stair with cast-iron railings (altered at ground

floor 1967); inner hall to rear with ornate panelled plaster ceiling

and 2 fluted Ionic columns (pine-clad cast-iron); original doors,

concealed chimneypieces, ornamental cornices, some ceiling roses.
