Description
The Palais De Danse, located at 31 South Tay Street in Dundee, is a building dating from around 1820 that underwent extensive remodeling in the mid-19th century. It is a three-storey and basement structure with four bays, featuring classical detailing suitable for both domestic and commercial use. The exterior is constructed of sandstone coursers with painted ashlar dressings and has a grey slate roof. The windows are architraved with corbelled cills, and there are consoled cornices on the ground floor and cornices on the first floor, with 2-pane timber sash and case glazing. The building has ashlar-coped skews with skewblocks and rendered axial stacks.
On the front elevation, there is a large pedimented entrance to the left, adorned with caryatids on pilasters that feature swagged lion heads. To the right, there are four basement windowheads, one of which is blocked, along with three ground floor windows and four windows each on the first and second floors.
The rear elevation is built of rubble and consists of three bays with margined 12-pane sash and case windows.
The interior has not been seen.
