Physician And Firkin Public House, 58 Dalkeith Road, Edinburgh

The Physician and Firkin Public House, located at 58 Dalkeith Road in Edinburgh, dates from around 1820 and has undergone later alterations. This is a two-storey, symmetrical, three-bay classical house with advanced outer bays, constructed from coursed, squared, cream rubble sandstone. It features a base course, cill course, and a cornice.

On the east elevation, there is a central tripartite doorway with a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight, flanked by Doric columns supporting a corniced doorpiece. Above the doorway, there is a single window, with additional windows in the outer left and right bays. The ground floor windows are set in round-arched panels. To the north, there is an additional single-storey wing added in 1969-70.

The building has four-pane timber sash and case windows, and a grey slate piended roof with a platform and cupola, along with twin coped stacks that do not have cans.

Inside, few original features remain. The property is surrounded by a low coped boundary wall that encloses the car park from the street.
