Mayfield House, 20-20A West Mayfield, Edinburgh

Mayfield House, located at 20-20A West Mayfield in Edinburgh, dates from around 1870 and is a two-storey, three-bay symmetrical classical house with a single-storey wing attached to the east. The exterior is finished in cream sandstone polished ashlar, with rubble on the sides and rear. It features a base course, advanced bracketed architraves around the first and second-floor windows, a cill course for the first-floor windows, and a cornice.

On the north (entrance) elevation, there is a recessed central doorway with a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight. The doorpiece is flanked by pilasters and topped with a cornice. Above the doorway, there is a single window on the first floor, with additional single windows on both floors in the remaining bays and in the single-storey wing.

The windows are plate glass timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, featuring shouldered, coped wallhead stacks with octagonal moulded cans.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is complemented by low coped boundary walls along the street, which include round-arched coped mutual walls with panelled corniced gatepiers and pedestrian gates.
