Description

11 West Mayfield is a classical house built around 1830, with some additions made in the mid-19th century. It is a two-storey, seven-bay structure that has a nearly symmetrical design, featuring a single-storey wing (No 9a) attached to the north. The central block is constructed of cream sandstone rubble, while the eastern, western sides, and rear are made of coursed rubble, with the western side painted at ground level. The building has ashlar dressings, a base course, advanced cills, a dividing band course, a cornice, and overhanging eaves.

The south elevation facing West Mayfield has an advanced three-bay central block and two bay terminal blocks. There are doorways located in the outer left bay (11 West Mayfield) and at the center, both featuring panelled doors. The doorway for No 11 has a plate glass fanlight, while No 9 has a three-pane fanlight above its door. A bracketed glass canopy is positioned above the doorways. Single windows are present on the first floor above, with additional single windows in the remaining bays and a narrow window to the east of the doorway for No 11.

On the east elevation facing South Gray Street, there are single windows on the ground floor at the outer right and in the single-storey wing to the north.

The windows throughout the building are 12-pane timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, featuring corniced ridge stacks and coped wallhead stacks, which are rendered on the eastern side.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is enclosed by high, coped rubble boundary walls along the street, with pedestrian gates leading to the South Gray Street wall (providing access to No 9) and to the single-storey wing to the north (providing access to No 9a).
