12 South Gray Street, Edinburgh

This building at 13 South Gray Street in Edinburgh dates from around 1815 and consists of a pair of symmetrical classical houses, each two storeys tall and four bays wide. The front is made of cream sandstone ashlar, which is painted at No 13, while the sides and rear are constructed from rubble. There is a cill course at the first-floor windows, architraves to the windows of No 12, a cornice, and a blocking course that is raised at the center and at the terminal ends.

On the west elevation, there are doorways in the central bays featuring panelled doors and plate glass fanlights, with pilasters supporting corniced doorpieces. Above these doorways, there are single windows on the first floor, and both floors have single windows in the outer bays.

The windows are 12-pane timber sash and case types. The roofs are covered with grey slate and have piended designs, with rendered and coped wallhead stacks and moulded cans.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is also bordered by low coped rubble walls along the street and to the south, with a higher rubble wall to the north. There are pedestrian gates located to the north and south of the property.
