Description

Woodlands, located at 15 Vennel Street in Stewarton, is an 1811 Classical villa with later bay windows added to the ground floor. This two-storey, three-bay building is constructed from coursed, squared, tooled sandstone featuring ashlar margins and raised cills. The north elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a prominent central porch supported by Doric pilasters. The entrance includes a four-panel, two-leaf timber door topped by a rectangular fanlight with a decorative fan glazing pattern, and there is a glass and timber inner door. To the left, there is a canted bay window, and to the right, a projecting bipartite window. The south elevation features a central, projecting two-storey gabled bay with a moulded Gibbsian architrave around the door, which has a keystone dated 1811, and a lean-to outshot to the right.

To the northeast, there is a single-storey gabled outbuilding. The glazing pattern on the north elevation consists mainly of four- and six-pane windows over two-pane, while the south elevation has twelve-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with purple slates, and there are coped gable stacks and raised skews.

Inside, as observed in 2008, the original room layout remains largely intact. The staircase has a D-plan with shallow treads, metal balusters, and a timber handrail, along with decorative cornice plasterwork and some original chimney pieces.

The property also features a pair of square-plan gate piers with a base course and shallow pyramidal capstones, which are connected to a wall to the northwest, along with additional rubble boundary walls.
