Description
Adelphi House, located at 91 and 93 New Sneddon Street in Paisley, dates from around 1800 and is a two-storey villa with a basement and three bays. The building is constructed of ashlar stone, with the central bay slightly projecting forward. It features a moulded string course above the basement and a panelled door flanked by sidelights. The porch is supported by coupled Ionic columns that hold up an entablature and blocking course.
The ground floor windows have a moulded cill course and are architraved and corniced, while the first-floor windows are also architraved. All windows exhibit a 12-pane glazing pattern. The eaves cornice and blocking course on the three-bay side elevation are designed to match the front. The rear elevation is similar in style but has unarchitraved windows and a projecting central staircase bay with a long window, along with a modern porch and forestair. The roof is piended and covered with slate, featuring corniced central stacks.
Surrounding the area are spearhead railings on all sides, with a more ornate design flanking the steps. There are two pairs of chamfered gatepiers topped with a moulded cornice and caps, made of painted ashlar. Each outer pier has an arched pedestrian entry attached.
