Half-Timer's School, Bright Street, Lochee, Dundee

Half-Timer's School, located on Bright Street in Lochee, Dundee, was likely designed by James MacLaren and dates from 1884. This single-storey school features a cruciform plan and is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings set on a rubble base. The south gable has three bays, with a central bipartite window that includes an arched keyblocked fanlight, flanked by blocked hood-moulded windows. The gable is adorned with corbelled skewputts and kneelers, although the ball finial at the top is missing. There are two bay wings on either side.

The north elevation mirrors the south, featuring a flat-roofed porch with a moulded chamfered segmental-headed door, providing separate entrances for boys and girls. The east gable has three hood-moulded windows, corbelled skewputts, and an elaborate stack at the apex. The west gable is similar but includes a segmental arched hood mould over the central window, which is situated below a scrolled circular panel dated 1884.
