Description
The Heron Monument, dated 1761, is a classical monument and burial enclosure located to the west in the graveyard of Monigaff Parish Church. It commemorates the Heron family and is constructed from red sandstone.
The monument features a modillioned pediment with a die and urn on top, supported by paired Corinthian columns. It has a decorated frieze and paired Corinthian pilasters flanking a central panel. The inscription panel, dated 1761, is framed by a shouldered architrave, with an armorial panel above it and egg and dart moulding. Massive consoles flank the structure.
The enclosure consists of balustraded walls, with corniced and channelled piers to the east and a wrought-iron gate.
