Description
1 Penkiln Terrace in Old Minnigaff is a late 18th century building with 19th century additions, consisting of a two-storey, asymmetrical pair of houses, with 1 Penkiln Terrace on the south side and Jacksholm on the north. The exterior is made of painted rubble, with painted margins on Jacksholm. The roof is piended to the south and gabled to the north.
On the east elevation, 1 Penkiln Terrace features a lower jerkin-headed bay that was added in the later 19th century, which is advanced to the left. It has a diamond-paned timber oriel window with a half-piend leaded roof on the first floor, and a window at ground level to the east. There is also a window to the right at ground level and a dormer-headed window on the first floor to the north, along with a rendered lean-to attached to the south. To the right, there are two windows at both the ground and first floors. A carport is located in the re-entrant angle formed by the advanced bay.
Between the two houses is a rendered gabled porch with a corrugated iron roof, featuring a modern door for 1 Penkiln Terrace on the south side and a panelled door for Jacksholm on the north side, along with a two-light window facing east.
On the Jacksholm side, there are two windows at both the ground and first floors, with the left window on the first floor being slightly out of alignment to the left.
The south elevation has one window at the center of the ground floor and two windows on the first floor. There is a rendered lean-to attached to the right and to the bay that is advanced to the east, with a window facing south and east. This side is adjoined to No 2 Penkiln Terrace on the left.
The north elevation is blank, while the west elevation shows two windows on the first floor of 1 Penkiln Terrace. There are brick additions at the ground floor, and No 2 Penkiln Terrace is adjoined transversely to the right.
The windows primarily feature plate glass glazing in sash and case style, with modern glazing in the enlarged windows on the first floor of Jacksholm. There is a brick gablehead stack on the north side and a rubble and brick ridge stack on the south side, with small grey slates covering the roof.
