Description
Kirkton House is a late 18th century, two-storey, three-bay former manse that features single-storey flanking wings and alterations made in 1837. The house is harled, with the east and west elevations finished in painted rubble, while the south elevation has polished granite margins.
On the south (entrance) elevation, there is a granite columned open porch at the center, likely added in 1837, which includes a heavy cornice and blocking course. The entrance features a panelled door with a four-pane fanlight and granite steps. The fenestration is regularly arranged, with tripartite windows on the ground floor, probably from the 1837 alterations. The half-piended wings are slightly recessed on either side, each containing a bipartite window.
The west elevation has an adjoining wing with a window on the right. Similarly, the east elevation has an adjoining wing with a window on the right. The north elevation features windows on the left and right at the first floor, along with a two-storey gabled stair block addition at the center. This addition has a stair window on the west return and windows at both the ground and first floors on the left side facing north. The house is flanked by lean-to additions at the ground floor, which include a window on the right and two doors with two small windows on the longer lean-to to the left.
The windows predominantly have 12-pane glazing in sash and case styles, while the bipartite windows feature 8-pane glazing. The roof has red sandstone coped skews and bracketed skewputts, with painted rubble gablehead stacks and harled wallhead stacks on the wings to the east and west. The roof is covered with grey slates.
Additionally, there is a modern glasshouse situated to the west and a long gabled range of rubble outbuildings to the northwest. A decorative wrought-iron gate marks the entrance to the drive.
