Description

76-78 Victoria Street is an Italianate villa built between 1860 and 1870, featuring classical details and set back from the street. The building is two stories high, with three asymmetrical bays, constructed from polished red sandstone. There are low steps leading up to the central doorway, which has paired consoles supporting a blocking course. The double-leaf door is accompanied by a fanlight to the left and a tripartite window with anta mullions. To the right, there is a full-height canted projecting window. Above the door, there is a single round-arched window, and to the left, three round-arched lights, all adorned with continuous archivolts and bold keystones. All windows are sash and case with plate glass, featuring a two-pane glazing pattern.

The villa has deep bracketed eaves and a combination of piend and platform slate roofs, with lead covering over the bay window. The end stacks are corniced, topped with tall lotus cans. The right flank is finished in stugged red sandstone and includes a tall round-arched stair light. There is a single-storey modern addition at the rear with a flat roof. The property is enclosed by low red sandstone parapets at the steps and boundary walls.
