Description
The Bridge of Cree, located at the boundary of Newton Stewart and Minnigaff, was built in 1813 by engineer John Rennie. This impressive five-span stone bridge crosses the River Cree and features five depressed-arch spans supported by bull-nosed cutwater buttresses that rise to semi-hexagonal pedestrian refuges. The bridge is constructed entirely of ashlar masonry, showcasing bold voussoirs and a polished red sandstone parapet. The carriageway has a slightly humpbacked profile with splayed embrasures. Additionally, there are a pair of cast-iron lamp brackets positioned at the center of the bridge.
