Description

Feorlinn is a post-1865, two-storey, two-bay villa located on Donaldson's Brae in Kilcreggan. It features a gabled, rectangular plan with Italianate details. The exterior is constructed from whinstone and sandstone rubble, creating a polychromatic effect, with sandstone ashlar margins and dressings. The entrance and rear elevations are rough-harled and painted. Notable architectural features include a base course, quoin strips, advanced wooden eaves, a string course, and roll-moulded reveals.

On the east elevation, the broad gable is advanced to the outer left, featuring a round-headed canopy porch supported by slender colonnettes, with a bargeboarded gable above. The round-headed door is two-leaf and panelled, with a window immediately to the left. The upper floor has two windows, asymmetrically placed to the outer left and right of centre. There is a tall stair window at the centre of the right return, with smaller windows to the outer right and left, and a single-storey rubble scullery block recessed to the right.

The south elevation is two-storey over a raised basement, with a broad, depressed gable slightly advanced to the outer right. It features a canted window from the basement to the principal floor, with stugged sandstone for the basement. The bipartite round-arched windows have a central colonnette and ashlar voussoirs. There is a window at ground level to the left, and a semicircular-headed window with a barrel canopy that breaks the eaves at the first floor.

The villa has four-pane and plate glass timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof with lead flashings, and a coped sandstone ridge stack with octagonal cans.

Inside, the villa boasts decorative cast-iron balusters, a stair window with painted border glass, and elaborate floral plasterwork in the drawing room.

The boundary wall and gates consist of whinstone walls, reconstructed with sea boulders set in cement for coping. The property is marked by slender cast-iron gateposts and arrowhead railings.
