Description

Ellerey is a mid-19th century villa, likely designed by Alexander Thomson. It is a two-storey, three-bay building with a rectangular plan and a gabled roof. The exterior is constructed from red sandstone ashlar, featuring polished margins and dressings, a base course, hoodmoulds with label stops, and timber transomed and mullioned windows. The eaves are advanced with exposed rafters.

On the west elevation, the villa has three bays, with a tall advanced gable on the outer right, a lower block to the left, and a porch in the re-entrant angle. The gable on the outer right is bargeboarded, and there is a square projecting bay at the ground level on a deep base with two windows and ashlar coping. A large Tudor-arched window is located on the first floor, and there is a lean-to with a stepped, coped screen wall to the outer right. The square porch on the left has a stop-chamfered arris and a flat roof now covered with modern felt. The entrance is on the left return (to the north), featuring steps with an ashlar die and balustrade topped with saddleback coping. The door is a two-leaf, boarded design with a shoulder arch and fleur-de-lis hinges. A shouldered arch window on the west side has etched and painted glass, and there is a small round-headed window on the first floor. The outer left has a tripartite window at ground level with a hoodmould, and a bargeboarded dormer head with a three-centred window and a lattice-carved cill on fluted brackets.

The north elevation features a gable with rough grey harl and a segmental-headed window off-centre to the left on the first floor, with yellow brick reveals and a raised cill. The east elevation also has rough grey harl with painted margins and yellow sandstone quoin strips, and the windows are asymmetrically arranged. An L-plan rendered service wing is attached to the outer right, forming a small yard.

At the rear, there are plate glass windows, as well as 12-pane, 6-pane, and 4-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and has rendered ridge stacks with circular cans.

The interior was not seen in 1993.
