Description
7 Church Street in Newton Stewart is a cottage dating from the late 18th to early 19th century, which was raised to include an attic in 1909. It is a single-storey, three-bay structure that was originally two, two-bay cottages, designed to mirror the neighbouring cottages at 4 and 5 Church Road.
The building is constructed of rubble with squared dressings, all of which are painted. The door is located off-centre to the right, while the former door to the second cottage, now blocked, was off-centre to the left. The door features fluted ornamentation with patarae surrounding it, a basket-arched lintel with a cornice, and a panelled door with a letterbox fanlight. There are windows flanking the door in the outer bays.
The cottage has gable dormers with simple barge boards and finials, and there is a lean-to extension at the rear. The windows are sash and case style, featuring a 4-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with graded grey slates and clay ridge tiles, and there are wallhead stacks.
