Description
4 and 5 Church Street in Newton Stewart is a low, single-storey double cottage built in the late 18th to early 19th century. The cottage has four bays and is mirrored about the center. It is constructed from rubble with squared dressings. The doors are located to the right of the center, with a former door to the left that has been blocked and converted into a window, while the outer bays feature additional windows. Number 5 has sash and case windows with plate glass, and number 4 has 4-pane glazing.
The roof is covered with graded grey slates and features clay ridge tiles. There are gablehead stacks, with the stack on the mutual gable painted. At the rear, there is a single-storey lean-to extension.
