34 Church Street, Portsoy

34 Church Street in Portsoy is a cottage that originated in the late 18th century and has undergone several alterations since then. It was originally two dwellings, featuring a five-bay design with doors located in the bays on either side of the center. The building is a single storey with an attic and is now a four-bay cottage, which includes a small addition at the south gable.

The exterior is constructed of harled rubble, with plain reveals around the doorways and windows. There is a window at the center of the facade, and a door in the bay to the left of center, which is flanked by a small window on the left. There is evidence of a former second door to the right of center, and a larger window is located in the outer right bay. At the south gable, there is a small irregularly shaped wing that contains a doorway and a canted angle window.

The cottage features a pair of later 19th century slate-hung canted dormers. The ground floor windows have 9- and 12-pane timber sash and case glazing, while the dormers have 2- and 4-pane similar glazing. The building has coped end stacks and a slate roof, along with a 19th century rooflight.
