Description
1-4 Old School Cottages in Holywood were built in 1823 and originally served as a single-storey school, which has since been converted into four cottages, with an additional structure at the north gable. The building features stugged and squared rubble that is whitewashed, complemented by contrasting black-painted ashlar margins, while the addition is rendered.
The long east elevation showcases central and outer bays that are gabled, with the latter being advanced. Each gable head has a blind cusped opening. There are three boarded and glazed doors, each topped with a triple-arched fanlight, and a fourth door located in the addition. The cottages have small-paned sash windows throughout. The roof features straight skews, with corniced end and axial stacks, as well as axial ventilators. The main roof is covered with graded slates.
