Studio Cottage, Fogo

Studio Cottage in Fogo dates from the late 18th to early 19th century and has undergone later alterations. This single-storey building was originally a school and schoolhouse, consisting of two rectangular-plan, three-bay blocks. The front is finished with whitewashed harl, while the side (southwest) and rear are made of sandstone rubble, and the northeast elevation is rendered. The front features projecting cills, while the rear has flush cills, and timber shutters are present throughout.

On the southeast (entrance) elevation, the left wing has a three-bay layout with a boarded timber door in the outer right bay and single windows in the remaining bays to the left. The adjoining wing has a boarded timber door at the center, flanked by single windows. The southwest (side) elevation includes two single windows at ground level. The northwest (rear) elevation features the left wing with single windows in two bays, offset to the left of center, and a regularly fenestrated three-bay wing attached to the right. The northeast (side) elevation is blind.

The windows have 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case style, and there is a skylight at the rear. The roofs are steeply pitched with purple slate, previously thatched, and have raised stone skews and beak skewputts. There are coped brick apex stacks on the southwest and northeast, a corniced brick ridge stack at the center, and various circular cans. The building also features cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 1998. The front of the cottage has a full-length cobbled path leading to it.
