Description
This is a road bridge located in Newbridge, Dumfries, built in 1758 by the contracting masons Thomas Twaddel and Thomas Porteous. The bridge features three segmental arches that span the Cluden Water. It was widened to the east, likely in the 20th century. The structure is made of squared red rubble with ashlar voussoirs and keystones. It has pointed cutwaters on either side, a band course below the ramped parapets, and asymmetrical abutments along with approach walls.
