Description
This early 19th century cottage at 1 Smithy Lane, New Luce, is a single storey building with a basement, appearing as two storeys due to the sloping ground towards the river. The structure is made of painted rubble, with a modern rendered extension to the east that is built upon the original rubble wall to the north.
On the south elevation facing Smithy Lane, there are three stone steps leading up to the door located on the outer right, with a window to the outer left and two windows in the extension to the right. The west elevation features a boarded door on the left that leads to the basement. The north elevation has two windows on each floor, with an additional two windows in the upper floor of the extension to the left.
The cottage has largely modern small-pane timber glazing, with 4-pane fixed glazing in the basement on the north side. The roof is covered with small purple slates, and there are modern rendered gablehead stacks on both the east and west sides of the cottage. There are no skews present.
