20 Marchmont Road, Edinburgh

20 Marchmont Road is a four-storey, four-bay tenement built around 1882, designed in the Scottish 17th century style and part of a terrace. The building is constructed from squared and snecked bull-faced sandstone, featuring polished ashlar dressings. It has a base course, a dividing band course above the first floor, a string course above the second floor, and chamfered reveals.

On the entrance elevation, there is an architraved doorway situated between the inner bays, topped with a cornice and decorative strapwork above the door. The doorway features a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight. Above this, a rectangular blank tablet is set at the third floor. The bays flanking the doorway contain single windows, while the third floor has pedimented dormerheads with scrolled skews. To the outer right, there is a full-height corniced canted window with a facetted pyramidal roof and a cast-iron finial. The outer left bay adjoins a neighbouring tenement and contains bipartite windows, with single windows in the angled bay and a parapet above these bays. The building has plate glass sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, corniced mutual stacks, and moulded eaves guttering. The boundary coping is retained. The interiors were not seen in 1991.
