14, 16 Marchmont Road, Edinburgh

This building, located at 14 and 16 Marchmont Road in Edinburgh, dates from around 1882 and is a four-storey, four-bay tenement designed in the Scottish 17th century style. It is part of a terrace and is constructed from squared and snecked bull-faced sandstone, featuring polished ashlar dressings. The design includes a base course, a corbel table on the third floor that steps down at the center, and dividing cornices for the outer bays. The third-floor windows break the eaves, and there are stop-chamfered reveals along with mock canon barrels set in gablehead tablets.

On the entrance elevation, there are two stop-chamfered and hoodmoulded doorways leading to the inner bays, each with panelled doors and plate glass fanlights. A central single window is located at the ground level. Above the doorways, there are single windows on all floors, with the third-floor window on the inner right featuring a crowstepped pedimented dormerhead, while the one on the inner left has a crowstepped link to the main wallhead stack. The outer left bay has a gabled full-height advanced bipartite window topped with a stone finial, and the outer right bay features a full-height two-light angled window that is corbelled to a square at the gablehead, also topped with a stone finial. The windows are plate glass sash and case. The roof is grey slate, with a corniced central wallhead stack, coped mutual stacks, scroll skewputts, and stone gutter stops.

The interiors were not seen in 1991. The property has boundary coping along the street.
