4, 6, 8 Marchmont Road, Edinburgh

This building, located at 4, 6, and 8 Marchmont Road in Edinburgh, dates from around 1878 and is a four-storey, four-bay tenement designed in the Scottish 17th century style. It is part of a terrace and constructed from squared and snecked bull-faced sandstone, featuring polished ashlar dressings. The design includes a base course, dividing cornices at the outer bays, and a corbel table at the third floor, which steps down at the center to form a hood over a heraldic panel. The windows exhibit a mix of plain and stop-chamfered reveals, with the third-floor windows breaking the eaves.

On the entrance elevation, there are three roll-moulded and hoodmoulded doorways, each with deep-set panelled doors and plate glass fanlights. The doorways are flanked by single and bipartite windows. Above, the bays feature bipartite windows, with those on the third floor topped with crow-stepped dormer heads linked to a central stack. The outer left bay has a gabled, full-height advanced bipartite window with chamfered angles above the ground floor, a circular patera set in the gable head, and a stone finial. The outer right bay has a full-height canted window with a rounded bay that is corbelled to square at the gable head, featuring a cruciform patera inset. The building has rounded angles adjoining the outer left side, and the windows are plate glass sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a central corbelled stack with heavy coping.

The interiors were not seen in 1991, and there is boundary coping along the street.
