21 Marchmont Road, Edinburgh

21 Marchmont Road is a four-storey, four-bay tenement built in 1880 by Hippolyte Jean Blanc, designed in the Scottish 17th century style. It is part of a terrace and constructed from squared and snecked sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. The building features a base course, a string course above the first floor, a cornice above the second floor, and crowstepped gables on the outer bays, with chamfered reveals.

The entrance elevation has a central roll-moulded doorway with a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight above. There is a blank heraldic shield set in a square surround between the second and third floors. The ground and third floors have single windows flanking the doorway, while the first and second floors feature bipartite windows. The third floor windows have pedimented dormerheads. The building has plate glass sash and case windows, which have unfortunately been reglazed. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are rendered and coped wallhead stacks as well as mutual stacks. A crowstepped gable adjoins the tenement to the north.

The interiors were not seen in 1991, and there is a low boundary wall to the street.
