Description
47 Thistle Street is a tenement building dating from around 1775. It has three storeys, a basement, and an attic, with six bays, and is built on ground that slopes down to the north at the rear. The exterior is constructed of coursed rubble. The doorway to the common stair is located at the centre right, featuring a wrought-iron sign above it that reads "GORDON WILSON PAINTER." The building has a pair of piend-roofed tripartite dormers and one bipartite dormer.
The rear elevation is irregular, consisting of five storeys and an attic with five bays, and includes additions at the ground level as well as a large box dormer. The windows are timber sash and case, with 12 panes, although some at the ground level are made of plate glass. The building features ashlar coped skews, rebuilt stone stacks, and is covered with grey slates. The interior was not seen in 1995.
