Description

Reconstructed 1830-31; alterations at ground by John Bryce, 1880; and subsequently. 4-storey and attic, 4-bay terraced classical block. Cream scumble sandstone ashlar. Built out at ground with 2 modern shops in largely unified corniced timber front with door to upper floors slightly set back to right. At 1st floor, windows with broad architraves and consoled pediments; lugged architraves at 2nd floor, below initial cornice; 3rd floor with further cornice and blocking course. Pair of piend-roofed canted dormers.

2-storey and attic on raised basement 5-bay rear elevation to lane with hoist at centre.

Timber sash and case plate glass windows. Ashlar coped skews; rendered stacks; grey slates.

INTERIOR: both shops with top-lit saloons at rear; that to W, approached through Corinthian screen, with coffered barrel-vaulted ceiling, by John Bryce.
