59-61 Thistle Street, Edinburgh

59-61 Thistle Street is a tenement building dating from around 1775. It has three storeys, a basement, and an attic, with five bays and shops on the ground floor. The building is constructed from coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and is situated on sloping ground that falls to the north at the rear.

The central ground floor features a round-headed doorway with an architrave, keystone, and a metal gate that leads to a common stair. To the left, there is a two-bay shop that is rendered and has a stone cornice, while to the right, there are two rendered bays that form part of an adjoining public bar (listed separately as No 55). The building is topped with a pair of piend-roofed tripartite dormers.

The rear elevation is five storeys high with four bays, and garage doors have been created at the ground level. The windows are timber sash and case with 12 panes, while the shops feature plate glass. The building has ashlar coped skews, rebuilt stone stacks, and brick at the rear, all covered with grey slates.

The interior was not seen in 1995.
