War Memorial, Dell Road Cemetery, Colinton, Edinburgh

The War Memorial at Dell Road Cemetery in Colinton, Edinburgh, was built around 1920. It has a rectangular, plinth-shaped design and features a channelled ashlar sarcophagus with a base course and a bracketed cornice, raised on two steps. The front of the memorial displays a central bronze plaque dedicated to soldiers of the Great War, framed by a moulded stone surround with reliefs on either side. On the rear, there is another bronze plaque dedicated to soldiers of World War II, inscribed with the words: "NOTHING IS HERE FOR TEARS. NOTHING TO WAIL, DISPRAISE, OR BLAME. NOTHING BUT WELL AND FAIR, AND WHAT MAY QUIET US IN A DEATH SO NOBLE." The memorial is topped with a short pedestal that has canted corners, standing on three steps, and bears the inscription: "IN MEMORY OF THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE PARISH OF COLINTON WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR."
