Description

Colinton Manse, located on Dell Road in Colinton, Edinburgh, is a 2-storey manse built in 1784 by mason Robert Weir and wright Thomas Jack, with later additions made by Alexander Trotter in 1823, John Chesser in 1861, and Peddie, Dick and Washington Browne in 1903. The building has a square plan and a piend roof, featuring additional outshots to the northeast and a 2-storey canted bay window added in 1861 on the principal elevation. It is harled with ashlar dressings, a basecourse, and an intermittent eaves course, with strip quoins and raised window margins, the latter being moulded on the southwest side.

The southeast (principal) elevation was remodelled in 1861 and features a central timber panelled front door with a plate glass fanlight set in a stop-chamfered architrave frame with a consoled cornice. Above the door is a window, with a window flanking to the right at ground level and a wall-head stack above. To the left, there is a 2-storey canted bay with a bandcourse and cill course on the first floor.

The southwest (side) elevation, likely from 1823, has three bays that are regularly fenestrated with segmental-arched windows on the upper floor.

The northwest (garden) elevation has irregular fenestration and features a modern glazed door.

The northeast (side) elevation presents a stepped composition with irregular fenestration. It includes an advanced bay from 1903 on the outer right, which has a mullioned window at ground level and a canted oriel window on the first floor, along with a timber boarded back door to the left return.
