1 Marchmont Street, Edinburgh

1 Marchmont Street in Edinburgh is a four-storey, four-bay tenement building, likely designed by Thomas Gibson around 1878. It is constructed from coursed orange sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. The building features a base course, a string course above the ground floor, a corbel table at the third floor, an eaves cornice, raised window surrounds, and chamfered reveals.

On the entrance elevation, there are chamfered arisses to the doorway located in the third bay, which has a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight. To the right of the entrance, there is a single window, with additional single windows above. The building also has a pedimented dormerhead with a stone finial. The second and fourth bays contain full-height canted windows, which are separated by cornices and topped with facetted pyramidal roofs adorned with wrought-iron finials. The outer left bay has single windows, and there is another pedimented dormerhead with stone finials.

The windows throughout are plate glass sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and features corniced mutual stacks and gabletted skewputts at the mutual gables. The boundary coping to the street is also noted. The interiors were not seen in 1991.
