4 Marchmont Street, Edinburgh

4 Marchmont Street in Edinburgh is a four-storey, four-bay tenement building designed by Thomas Gibson around 1878. It is part of a terrace and is constructed from coursed orange sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. The building features a base course, a string course above the ground floor, a corbel table at the third floor, an eaves cornice, raised window surrounds, and chamfered reveals.

On the entrance elevation, there are chamfered arrisses to the doorway located in the third bay, which has a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight above. To the right of the doorway, there is a single window, with additional single windows above it. The building also has a pedimented dormerhead with a stone finial. Full-height canted windows are present in the second and fourth bays, separated by dividing cornices and topped with facetted pyramidal roofs that feature wrought-iron finials. The outer left bay contains single windows, along with another pedimented dormerhead with a stone finial. The windows throughout are plate glass sash and case types. The roof is covered with grey slate and has corniced mutual stacks.

The boundary coping along the street is also noted. The interiors were not seen during the 1991 inspection.
