3 Marchmont Street, Edinburgh

3 Marchmont Street in Edinburgh is a four-storey, four-bay tenement building designed by Thomas Gibson around 1878. It is part of a terrace and is constructed from coursed orange sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. The building features a base course, a string course above the ground floor, a corbel table at the third floor, an eaves cornice, raised window surrounds, and chamfered reveals.

On the entrance elevation, the doorway in the third bay has chamfered arisses and is adorned with a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight. To the right of the doorway is a single window, with additional single windows above. The building has a pedimented dormer head with a stone finial. The second and fourth bays feature full-height canted windows with dividing cornices and facetted pyramidal roofs topped with wrought-iron finials. There are single windows in the outer left bay, along with another pedimented dormer head with a stone finial. The windows are plate glass sash and case style. The roof is covered with grey slate and has corniced mutual stacks.

The boundary coping along the street is also noted. The interiors were not seen during the 1991 inspection.
