Description
14-15 Main Street in Dalmeny is a mid-19th century single-storey pair of cottages arranged in a mirrored L-plan, forming a U-plan. The principal elevation features stugged, squared, and snecked sandstone, while the sides and rear are constructed of rubble, with chamfered arrises.
On the north elevation, there are widely spaced windows in the central bays, flanked by modern timber doors in the re-entrant angles created by the advanced outer bays, each of which has a timber-mullioned window at the center. The east elevation is blank, with a chimney-gabled central bay. The south elevation has rendered piended rear wings and a shared gabled rubble wing at the center. The west elevation is also blank, featuring a chimney-gabled central bay.
The cottages predominantly have 10-pane, lying-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with graded grey slate, featuring overhanging eaves, barge boards at the gables, and exposed rafter ends. Additional details include cast-iron rainwater goods and coped ashlar ridge stacks with circular cans.
