Description
This is a 1935 K6 telephone kiosk, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. The K6 design, also known as the Jubilee Kiosk, was commissioned to commemorate the Silver Jubilee year of George V. A committee within the General Post Office redesigned the telephone kiosk for mass production, with a scheme providing one kiosk for each village with a Post Office. Scott’s design was approved by the Royal Fine Art Commission and went into production in 1936. The characteristic red colour was chosen in 1924 by the Royal Fine Art Commission for its visibility and official appearance. The kiosk is part of a group of buildings including Dalmeny Kirk, nearby cottages, houses, a war memorial, farm buildings and the farmhouse.
