Description
Blacket Avenue Lodge, built around 1825, is a single-storey, three-bay, symmetrical, classical former gatelodge with a single-storey wing attached to the north. The building is constructed from cream sandstone coursed rubble with droved dressings, featuring a base course, advanced cills, stone canopies over the windows and doorway, a cornice, and overhanging eaves.
On the entrance elevation, there is a doorway in the advanced central bay, which has a two-leaf panelled door and a plate glass fanlight above. A pediment breaks the eaves above the doorway, and there are bipartite windows in the bays to the outer left and right. To the left of the single-storey wing to the north, there is another bipartite window, while a doorway to the outer right has been blocked.
The south elevation, facing Blacket Avenue, features a single bay with a full-height, three-light, canted window. The windows throughout the lodge are square pattern leaded, mullioned, and transomed. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, complemented by tall, rendered octagonal stacks.
The interior was not seen in 1996. The gatepiers, designed by James Gillespie Graham in 1825, are a pair of corniced Tudor gatepiers with blind traceried panels, made from cream sandstone ashlar.
