Benneil With Boundary Wall And Gate Piers, Shore Road, Kilcreggan

Benneil, located on Shore Road in Kilcreggan, is a mid-19th century cottage villa featuring a single storey and attic with a gabled, rectangular plan. The building is constructed from whinstone and sandstone rubble, accented with sandstone margins and dressings, chamfered reveals, quoin strips, and projecting eaves with exposed rafters.

The southwest elevation, which is the main front, has three symmetrical bays. At the center, there is a shallow, piend-roofed sandstone porch that features a two-leaf panelled door with a two-pane fanlight above and a half-glazed inner door. Flanking the porch are tripartite projecting windows at the ground level, while the attic storey has three windows, with gablets that break the eaves above. To the outer right, there is a lower modern rendered block.

The ground floor windows are plate timber glass sash and case types, while the two outer left attic windows have timber casement and top-hopper windows. The outer right attic window is a four-pane sash and case window. The roof is covered with grey slate and has lead flashings, with low, coped apex stacks and round cans.

The boundary wall surrounding the property is made of whinstone with harl pointing and features a semicircular rubble coping. The gate piers are simple, with stop-chamfered arrises and low pyramidal caps.
