Description

Claremont is a mid-19th century, two-storey, three-bay villa located on Shore Road in Kilcreggan. The building features a rectangular plan with gabled roofs and is constructed from whinstone and sandstone rubble, accented with polished stone margins and dressings. Notable architectural details include rusticated window surrounds, chamfered reveals, a base course, rusticated bull-faced quoins, advanced eaves, and exposed rafters.

On the west elevation, there is an advanced broad gable on the outer left, with a full-height bow that has five-light windows on each floor and corniced eaves. A gabled porch is set at right angles within the re-entrant angle, featuring a modern uPVC door on the right return and a four-pane window to the west. The outer right has a gabled bay with a bipartite window at ground level to the left of centre and a round-headed window centrally located on the first floor.

The north elevation is three-bay with a single-storey service window to the left. There is a blind bay on the outer right and an advanced gabled bay to the left, which has a bipartite window at both ground and first floors, along with a single-storey service jamb to the left.

The south elevation displays a broad gable with windows offset at ground and first floors to the outer right, and a lean-to block against the rear.

The villa has uPVC casement windows, a grey slate roof, and tall corniced ashlar wallhead and ridge stacks with terracotta cans. The gatepiers and boundary wall consist of painted ashlar piers with chamfered arrises and pyramidal caps, alongside a rubble wall with harl pointing and boulder coping.
